In college, Janet concentrated in psychology and social relations, then went on to receive an M.P.A. from the Kennedy School and a Ph.D. in political economy and government. Today, most of Janet’s research concerns social welfare policies and their impact on gender disparities in the labor market and/or on income inequality. She’s the co‐author or co‐editor of four books, and has published numerous articles on gender inequality, employment, and social policy.
From 2006 to 2016, Janet served as director of LIS, a cross‐national data archive and research center located in Luxembourg, with a satellite office at The Graduate Center. Since 2016, she’s served as director of the Stone Center. Janet has held the James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Distinguished Chair in Socio-Economic Inequality at CUNY since it was established in 2021.
