Lunch With Janet Gornick

Please join us for a Lunch With meetup, a (virtual) meal with a classmate.

Our May 2025 guest will be Professor Janet Gornick. Janet is Director of the Stone Center on Socio-Economic Inequality, and professor of political science and sociology at The CUNY Graduate Center.

May 13, 2025, 1:00 pm Eastern time

We'll meet via Zoom. Bring your questions and don't be afraid to eat on camera!

Join us for a conversation on Janet's research areas, what's happening in universities today, what's happening to social welfare policies here and abroad, and more.

In college, Janet concentrated in psychology and social relations, then went on to receive an M.P.A. from the Kennedy School and a Ph.D. in political economy and government. Today, most of Janet’s research concerns social welfare policies and their impact on gender disparities in the labor market and/or on income inequality. She’s the co‐author or co‐editor of four books, and has published numerous articles on gender inequality, employment, and social policy.

From 2006 to 2016 Janet served as director of LIS, a cross‐national data archive and research center located in Luxembourg, with a satellite office at The Graduate Center. Since 2016, she’s served as director of the Stone Center. Janet has held the James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Distinguished Chair in Socio-Economic Inequality at CUNY since it was established in 2021.

CA79's Lunch With series allows us to learn more about a classmate we might know a little—or not at all.
